Gezina, Pretoria

Gezina lies within the greater Moot area, north east of Pretoria's city centre and en-route to the mountain pass leading toward Pretoria North.  It is cradled between the Magaliesberg mountain range on its northern side and Meintjies Kop - upon which the Union Buildings proudly stand - just a few blocks down south.

This old and very developed suburb, proportionately, probably serves more as a business area as opposed to a suburban living area.  However, if one needs super quick and easy access into the city centre, major industrial areas such as Rosslyn and even academic institutions such as the Steve Biko Academic Hospital or The Onderstepoort Academic Veterinary Clinic then this would serve as the perfect location.

Stands are large but houses definitely still hold the older, sixties, seventies and eighties style with a number of smaller home options such as flats and complexes to choose from.  It is not as attractive as the more north easterly and easterly suburbs of Pretoria but it definitely resonates old-style Pretoria and is well located to a large number of important amenities. 

Interestingly Gezina was named after President Paul Kruger's second wife, Gezina, who bore him no fewer than seven daughters and nine sons.

CLIMATE:

Gezina enjoys a sub-tropical climate as is prevalent throughout most of Tshwane.  Summer days warm up from early in the morning and can easily reach 30 degrees Celsius and up.  Fortunately, Pretoria enjoys summer rains and is often blessed with mid to late afternoon showers, breaking the heat and leading to warm but comfortable evenings. 

Gezina is completely developed so there are very few natural areas but one can definitely see that gardens and greenery, lining the streets, flourish during the summer months and die down during winter.

Winters can be quite cold during the early morning hours but generally warm up to be pleasantly comfortable for most of the day.  On the odd occasion, when temperatures become unusually low, there may be frost.

MAJOR ACCESS ROUTES:

Gezina has two main throughfares, Voortrekker Road heading north from the city and Michael Brink which travels south-wards towards Pretoria's city centre.  The M8 travelling east leads to the N1 highway whilst it leads to the M1 if heading in a westerly direction.
