Brooklyn at a glance
Classic, contemporary, vibrant almost swanky - just a few ways to describe timelessly elegant Brooklyn, located in Pretoria's "Old East" area. High-end in many ways, Brooklyn's quiet residential streets still ooze the original old-world flair, with an array of both original and more modern architecture depicted in its homes, grand embassies, chic boutique-styled hotels and guesthouses, malls, squares and open-air entertainment areas. Residential options include up-market and comfortable apartments and townhouses, charming, large, old family homes and stately residences. The atmosphere is peaceful, gardens are mostly designed to integrate the lusciously natural vegetation and age-old trees are left to drape over homes and streets, almost naturally manicured.
Location is certainly of great value to the residents of Brooklyn, especially considering that The University of Pretoria and Pretoria High School for Boys grace its borders, while surrounding neighbourhoods include Waterkloof, Menlo Park, Hatfield, Muckleneuk and Groenkloof.
Brooklyn is also the location of the Van Wouw House Museum, a 1930s thatched-roof home which previously belonged to the Dutch-born sculptor Anton Van Wouw.
CLIMATE:
Brooklyn shares in Pretoria's sub-tropical, warm temperate climate. Summer days are warm to hot and often overcast in the afternoon as Pretoria enjoys summer rainfalls. Winter mornings are generally cold, but warm up during the course of the day due to the mostly clear skies. As winters do not receive rain, natural vegetation may dry up but soon re-emerges as spring breaks and the short bursts of afternoon showers together with a warmer climate feed life back into the beautifully manicured gardens and side-walks of Brooklyn and its surrounding natural environment.
MAIN ACCESS ROUTES:
There are quite a few main access routes leading to and from Brooklyn but the two main roads are George Storrar Drive which heads toward the N14 Highway and Justice Mohammed Street which leads to the N1 Highway. Duncan Street leads to and from the suburbs of Hatfield and Lynnwood while Walker Street heads toward Sunnyside and the Pretoria City Centre. These all border Brooklyn so access takes only a few minutes depending on the traffic.
